Attempted Car Bombings in London

The Muslim Safety Forum (MSF) was informed by the police of the attempted car bomb attacks early on Friday morning 29 th of June 2007 in London's West End. The MSF has received a number of updates from the police and attended meetings with Assistant Commissioner Tariq Ghaffur and DAC Cressida Dick.

MSF is acutely aware of the dangers presented by these incidents to all of us in Britain and how such acts are being used to divide our community by terrorists. We call upon all who have any information that may assist in investigations to contact the police immediately.

Mujib Miah, the Chair of MSF stated; "this incident highlights the threat that we face and the importance of remaining vigilant, and I'd like to thank those that spotted the potential car bomb and to the officers who risked their lives to make the device safe."

He further added, "We have asked the police to take on board the community concerns regarding possible backlash caused by inaccurate, sensationalised and irresponsible media reporting of the incident based on conjecture. We emphasise that incidents such as these should be used to emphasis that we will not be divided and not allow terrorists to affect our way of life. We would like to take this opportunity to highlight that in the past members of the Muslim community have proved an invaluable asset to the police in such investigations."

We urge the community to report any crimes including Islamophobic hate crime that occurs immediately to their local police or alternatively they can use the MSF website ( www.muslimsafetyforum.org) to log their complaint.
