MSF Press Release 22nd January 2007 Minister of State Phil Woolas MP and Sir Ian Blair to attend Muslim Safety Forum Conference on Islamophobia The Muslim Safety Forum (MSF) is holding a one-day conference on ‘Islamophobia – a Hate Crime’ on Wednesday 24th January 2007, 10:00 – 16:00 at the London Muslim Centre, Whitechapel to highlight the importance of tackling hate crimes, racism and discrimination. The issues of Islamophobia and hate crimes against Muslims have increased particularly since September 11th 2001, and many members of the Muslim community live in fear of being subjected to such incidents. The MSF is seeking to find ways to address these issues in co-operation with the police and government bodies. The conference will seek to identify a joined up approach to tackling Islamophobia focussing on policing polices and practises. The conference will cover a range of issues under the following themes:

The overriding objective of the MSF is to identify the safety and security needs of all our communities; with a particular reference to the Muslim community in the UK. The MSF is the key advisory body for the Police Service and has signed a working protocol with the Metropolitan Police to build better police / community relations. It has been advising the police on matters of safety and security from the Muslim perspective for over four years now. It meets on a monthly basis with senior representatives of ACPO and the MPS, the MPA, Home Office, CPS and the IPCC amongst others.
