MSF ORGANISES OUTREACH INTO THE COMMUNITY WITH POLICE COMMISIONERS Community Led Panel Discussion– 4th July 2007, 6:00pm, at London Muslim Centre The Muslim Safety Forum (MSF) invited AC Tarique Ghaffur and DAC Cressida Dick to a series of community led panel discussions throughout the UK over the next few weeks. These discussions will allow members of the community to relay their fears and ask questions directly about how they can contribute to the maintenance of safety and security in their neighbourhoods. AC Tarique Ghaffur and DAC Cressida Dick accepted the invitation. The first panel discussion will be held at 6:00pm on the 4th July at the London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel. Mujib Miah, Chair of MSF, said “these outreach programmes are of vital importance to consolidate the police engagement with the Muslim community and prevent alienation.” Members of the MSF held meetings with Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur and Deputy Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick at New Scotland Yard on Sunday 1 July 2007. During the meetings they discussed the impact of the incidents over the past 72 hours and the effect it was having on the Muslim Community. The MSF reiterated that it has encouraged the community to continue to be vigilant and report suspicious activity to the anti terror hotline 0800 789 321. Furthermore, MSF representatives raised the issue of a possible back lash against the community that may arise and potential impact of insidious media misrepresentations. For further details regarding the community led panel discussions, or to book your place at the event call: Azad Ali (07956 527 296) or Abdurahman Jafar (07905 891 299) We urge the community to report any Islamophobic hate crime that occurs immediately to their local police or alternatively they can use the MSF website (www.muslimsafetyforum.org) to log their complaint.
